NEW JOB!!

I've been working part time at a gas station/convenience store/casino since the 1st week of December. I liked the job but the hours were terrible, no benefints, no discounts, not lots of appreciation, etc..
With that said, I was very grateful for the job because so many other people were struggling trying to find jobs here in my town!! I was only out of work for a month which isn't long here!
The same day that I applied for that job, I applied for a full time job with awesome benefits, good hours etc!...They finally hired me this week!! It took them over 3 months to make up their minds!..lol
I'll be working as a phlebotomist for a blood bank. I went to school to be a Medical Assistant so this is right up my alley!! I'll be doing lots of traveling to towns in South Dakota and Nebraska but I have nothing holding me back here and I'm very anxious to start! I have to go to Rapid City, a city 250 miles West of here for 3 weeks of training starting on the 6th of April.
My last day at my other job was on Sunday. I wanted to take a bit of time off to deep clean my apartment and just chill out before starting a new chapter in my life.
So the 10th of this month was my beautiful grand daughters 1st birthday!! She has 7 teeth and she's trying to stand without holding on to things so she'll be walking at any time now. I miss her and her mom and dad so much. Here she is a year old and I've only seen her once! She was only a few weeks old then. I talked to her and sang Happy Birthday to her and her dad said she clapped her hands and was smiling. I said can you say Hi and she was quiet so I said can you say DaDa and she piped right up and said it...Soooo cute!!
They are talking about coming home for Thanksgiving so I'm really excited!! Too bad we have to share them with Casey's dad and his family. lol
We are also talking about hooking up web cams so we can talk and she can actually see who Grandma is!!..lol
Anyway, that's it for this installment..I hope it won't be another 3 months before I write again!! I keep forgetting!!
See ya soon!!

Our White Christmas

We had quite a Christmas here in South Dakota! Starting on Christmas Eve and ending a day or 2 after Christmas we got 20 inches + of snow. The wind was blowing about 30-50 miles per hour so the visibility was nil. All of the interstates were closed in the state and it was very dangerous to be out and about. So lots of people spent the day at home instead of going to their families for Christmas. Me included.

We were snowbound here for 2 days. My streets weren't plowed and people with big trucks were even getting stuck. I kept thinking what happens if someone needs emergency help to get through!!

Here are just a couple of pictures I took on Christmas day.

This is my car in the parking lot right outside my arpartment building door.

This is just a few parking spaces down from my car...HUGE drifts!!

This is the street in front of my Apartment building. The street has totally disappeared under all the snow. Big trucks continually tried to get through the snow and had to dig themselves out!!

Then just when we were starting to recover from that blizzard, here came another one on the 6th of January!!

I don't know exactly how much snow we got with this one, but I know it was more than 6 inches and the wind blew in excess of 30 mph again. I was lucky to get off work early that night. Listening to the radio, it sounded like the whole city was shutting down. It took them about 15 minutes to tell about all the closures that night!

I don't live far from my job but it was treacherous getting home. The streets were like a sheet of ice. I got home and was pulling into my parking space and got stuck tight. I couldn't even move an inch. I'll put a picture. I just left it and the next morning our maintenance man knocked on my door and offered to help me. He pulled me out with a little skid loader and cleaned out my parking space.

This was the morning after I got stuck. It doesn't look bad but I was stuck solid. lol

Ok, enough of that...I didn't do lots of decorating this year. I just put my lighted stuff up in the window and put my little fiber optic tree up....

I love this tree...I take lots of pictures of it.

And the last thing for this entry...A picture of my beautiful grand daughter and my wonderful son!!...She is just a couple of days away from being 10 months old. She's such a giggle box...I think this was taken around Thanksgiving.

Well, that's it for this time. I'll try to post again soon!!!

Last day of November already!!

Wow, I can't believe it's the last day of November already!! We still don't have any snow on the ground which is amazing. That makes me really happy though!!

We had a very nice Thanksgiving. My mom cooked a spectacular meal as usual. She always says she's not going to cook a big meal anymore but she'd rather do that than go out to eat for a holiday. She's going to be 80 on the 14th of this month.

Here is a picture of them at the table, I'm taking the picture. My mom is on the left, then my aunt Loretta, my cousin Jason and his dad, my uncle Larry. Mom, Loretta and Larry are brothers and sisters. They are all widower's.

I'm still searching for a job. I apply at 3 to 4 places a week. The job market is sooo bad right now that I'm really getting worried about not getting a job right away! I'll take anything they'll give me, well just about anything!!..lol Beggers can't be choosy!! I can't believe I've been out of work a whole month already! Boy, does time fly!

I have been a bit down in the dumps so I haven't done much reading but I did finish a really good book this week.

Demon Ex Machina by Julie Kenner is the 5th book in the Tales of a Demon-hunting Soccer Mom series. I love this series and hope it goes on for a few more books but it just seemed like the end to me.

I'm thinking of putting up my Christmas decorations this weekend. Not that I have too many..lol
My little fiber optic tree, a few knick knacks and my lighted stuff I put in the window..
I still love Christmas..I love to drive around and look at all the beautiful Christmas lights and decorations!!

I'm sad because I can't even afford to go to New Moon at the theater!! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait for awhile. I'm loving these movies! I have all the books but haven't read them yet.

Well, that's all I can think of for this time. I'll be back soon!

Rough week

It's been a horrible week for me.
I lost my job! I really thought this job would be my last. Oh well, such is life, as much as it sucks sometimes!! Wow, Happy Birthday to me huh?
So I got all signed up for unemployment and talked to my landlords to reduce my rent. It won't go down much!! Low income housing my butt!! And since the payment information had already gone to the bank it doesn't count for November! What a ripoff!!
I also joined the rec center. They let me join for 1/2 price and pay as I go per month which works for me! I've gone a couple times so far and love, love, love the pool! I don't really swim, but I tread water really well!! haha..I can swim but I'm not great at it so I just use a floating tube and work my legs really well. I also walk in the water. I'm just trying to build up the muscles that I lost while I was sick. I also have access to all the exercise equipment but haven't done anything but swim yet. I'll work my way up to it.
Anyway, that's it for this lousy week!!

I'm trying to win a Kindle!!

Noobie is giving away 2 Kindles and I want one!! They are selling for $259 right now so winning one would be awesome! http://www.noobie.com/kindle-giveaway?ref=1916050178 ... Just click on the link and sign up to win guys!!

It's my birthday today!

Whoopee!!...Yeah right, when you get as old as dirt like me you quit getting excited about birthdays!! I'm almost at the mid 50's mark..gasp!!
I got an awesome birthday card from my son so far. I'm going to have to let them know that Grandma's like getting birthday cards from their grandchildren too!!...haha

Speaking of my grandchild..Here are a couple of Clovers 6 month pictures I just got off of the kids blog...Isn't she adorable? Those huge dark eyes and she hasn't lost a bit of her hair. I miss her soooo much! Clover Isobel, born March 14th of this year.

Not too much has been going on this month.

Last night was Halloween and I didn't have any trick or treaters come to my door. I didn't have any candy anyway..I'd be too tempted to eat it!!

I still weigh 161 so at least I'm maintaining my weight.

I'm still not well, but I'm getting there. I'm going to have to have another EGD before the end of the year and we'll see how many after that. The doctor said I could end up having several more to dilate things before I'm better. I do feel better than I did and I have just a little more stamina than I did, but I have NO strength in my legs at all. From losing the weight so fast and being sick most of the time I lost all my muscle tone in them. So my doctor is writing me up a prescription for physical therapy in a pool and for some light exercise equipment like an exercise bike. The local Rec center here said they needed the prescription from him and they'd work out a deal with me. I love the pool and it's excellent exercise to get my strength back!!

I just finished a couple of awesome books...

Silent Night, Haunted Night by Terri Garey is about ghosts and the 3 fates. One of the fates is a succubus. Very good addition to the Nicki Styx series!! Nicki had a problem with her heart in the 1st book, she died for a bit, when she came too, she was able to communicate with ghosts.

On the Edge by Ilona Andrews is a great 1st book in this series...Very different paranormal...Rose Drayton and her 2 younger brothers live in the Edge, between 2 worlds...To one side is the Broken, where all the normal people live..On the other side is the Weird, where all the magical people live. The people that live in the Edge are the only people that can freely travel in both worlds.

I haven't been to the movies for awhile but I am looking forward to seeing New Moon when it comes out later this month!! (The 2nd movie based on Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series)
I had a friend from work gave me 2 huge pheasant breasts a week ago. I put one in the freezer and cooked one..

I've got to tell you how I made it, it was amazing!!...Very simple but sooo flavorful!!

I put 1/2 a can of cream of mushroom soup on the bottom of the crock pot,
I layered the pheasant breast on it, (I took the meat off the bones)
I added water to the can and poured the rest of the soup over the pheasant. (just so it covered all of the bird)
I thought it needed something so I added a bunch of spices I had in my cupboard to it.
Salt
Pepper
Lowrey's season salt (just a little)
Parsley flakes
Paprika
Onion powder
Garlic salt
I cooked it on high for about 4 hours and turned it to low for another 2 hours...YUMMM

I made some mashed potatoes to go with it and instead of adding milk to them I added sour cream, they were sooo good!...
It's about time that I get interested in cooking after 50 years!!...I'm asking for some good cookbooks for Christmas this year. I never really learned how to cook which is bad because my mom is an awesome cook!! My son taught himself how to cook out of necessity and is also an awesome cook!! I was just never interested in learning, now I really want to learn. I'd love it if we'd have some local cooking classes around here but no such luck. I've been alone for many years and just got used to eating out of cans, or boxed stuff or microwaving stuff.

I'm all alone today so I'm treating myself to a good lunch. I'm going to get takeout Chinese...My favorite!! Their sesame chicken is to die for!

That's all the news I have for now...I'll add another post around the 1st of December!!

It's me today!!

I finally have some clothes that fit me! As of today, I weigh 161 pounds.

Here are a few pictures that my mom took of me yesterday. (before the fall) .. The wind was fierce as you can tell by my messy hair! Also I'm squinting pretty bad because I was looking into the sun.

Here I am with a XL ladies top and a size 14 jeans!!

The bottom picture is Casey, Kerry and I at Christmastime 2004 but it gives a pretty good idea of how large I was.

I started out at 250 pounds January 11th, 2008 and here I am today! I've literally goine through hell to get to this point but hopefully the worst is behind me.

I just had laproscopic surgery plus an EGD on the 14th of September and another EGD on the 24th of September and I'm able to eat pretty freely. So far so good. I've have several medical people tell me that I could go on fine or I could have to have several more EGD's to dilate the spot right above my stomach. We'll see I guess.

I was starting to feel pretty good, except my muscles are still very weak and I get tired so easily. We had very strong winds yesterday. I was going up the 4 concrete steps to my apartment building and had just reached the top step when the door came flying open, hit me and I did a somersault back down the steps...OUCH!!...I'm fine except for several sore scrapes all over, a small goose egg right above my right ear from hitting my head on a step, a couple gouges out of my right big toe and several very sore spots on my back and shoulders...geeeez...If it's not one thing it's another huh? It's about time I catch a break is'nt it??

That's it for today and I'll try to do an update or at least a note monthly. I promise!

More drama!!

Happy Valentines Day everyone!! I hope that those of you with significant others have a wonderful romantic day!!....Me, not so much!!...lol

More drama for me this week!!!.....I got several calls from my doctors office the other day that I missed because I sleep during the day! So I called them the next morning and they told me that they got some results from my EGD. I have a pretty nasty bacterial infection that I need to start treating immediately and aggressivly. So I went to the pharmacy and am now on 2 different antibiotics twice a day and they upped my previcid solutabs to twice a day too...Ugggg, What next?
Oh and I did get a surgery date to fix the hiatal hernia and to move my band up. February 23rd. About a week away. I'll take a week off from work and should be good to start losing weight!! I've got everything crossed hoping that this is a miracle fix!!..lol
Other than that, nothing new has happened this week.

What's new!

I know it's been forever since I've posted. I promise I'll try much harder to post lots more often!!

So what's new in my life?..Wellll..

I'M GOING TO BE A GRANDMA!!!...My little peanut is due on March 11th and it's a girl!!...I just was able to have 1 son so I'm soooo happy to have a little girl to spoil!!...They aren't much fun though, they don't want anything Disney, Sesame Street, purple or not much pink!! ...hmmm, not so easy shopping!!...lol...I'm soo excited!! The only horrible part is that they live in Portland, Oregon and I live in Mitchell, South Dakota! I can't afford to go there often and they only come home every other Christmas!!
Here she is about 4 months ago!!..lol

Also, I had weight loss surgery a year ago. I'm terrily disappointed because I only lost 30 pounds...My fault too because I eat all the wrong things, BUT, due to me having lots of pain lately, I'd had lots of tests.

I first had a gallbladder ultrasound that included all my abdominal organs. They didn't find anything and I was sure I had gallstones!

Then I had a barium swallow..They found a severe stricture (narrowing) in my esophagus so today I had a EGD or a esophagogastroduodenoscopy..It's where they put a tube with a camera attached in my mouth and send in down and look at my throat basically. They found that I have a very large ulcer with several small ulcers around it in my lower esophagus. Also I have a hiatal hernia that has gone up through my lap band! Sooo that means more surgery to fix the hernia and to move my band. The doctor said today that that could be why I wasn't losing weight because the band wasn't working!!...WOW!!

I'm feeling pretty good except for feeling a little weak due to the anethstesia..Also my chest is a tiny bit sore.

I'm still working with developmentally disabled adults. I've been there for almost 3 years and don't see myself leaving the job until I retire! Or they get tired of me!! I work four 10 hour overnight shifts a week. I like it because I'm there by myself, no supervisors peeking over my shoulder..lol...I just check on the guys periodically and help them if they need it. Plus I give medications in the morning and feed them all breakfast...The men I work with are awesome. They range from being mentally retarded to brain damaged to having cerebral palsy. It's a challenge but I feel good about what I do on a daily basis!!

So that's it for this post...

Talk soon!!

My Christmas Tree

No snow yet!! It's starting to get cold though, this morning it was 9 above and right now it's 21 above. I haven't gotten my Christmas decorations up from my storage room yet but when I do, I'll post a few pictures.

I live in a small one bedroom apartment so I don't have much room for a Christmas tree. I bought a 32 inch Fiber Optic tree. It's sooo pretty! I took a bunch of pictures of it to post here but they just won't turn out very well with the lights!!...grrrr...So here are a couple of the best shots of it.

Dishcloth done!

I just finished my first dishcloth. I love the colors! I've got to figure out how to stop the edges from rolling though. I did this as a flat piece on the blue KK round loom. The yarn I used was Red Heart Worsted Weight. The color is Country Blues.

Links to the Left

I just listed all my favorite links. Whew!!
My favorites menu has been acting up and I know I've lost some of my links, so if you notice any good links that are missing, please let me know. I'll happily add them!!

What I'm reading

I'm reading Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series right now. I'm on book 3 out of 6 so far. It's about Joanne Baldwin, a weather warden.

She dies and is brought back as a Djinn, then dies again and is restored to human. Who knows how many more times she's going to die in the next 3 books!!..lol

I'm enjoying the series so far!!

I finished the hat and am almost finished with the scaft on this set. I'm having trouble figuring out an easier way to do the fringe. I tried to do it and it looked horrible!

I did the hat on the green loom and the scarf on the blue KK loom. I used Bernat Super Stripes yarn.

Finished a new hat

I finished another hat. I made this one shorter and did a ribbing on the brim instead of the turned up brim. I like this one much better!!

I did it on the green KK loom.

Yarn and Loom used on hat

I had some requests for the yarn used on the hat below so I took a picture of it.

It's made on the green loom from the round knifty knitter set. The yarn is BERNAT Softee Chunky. The color is Denim 40119 and it's 100% Acrylic - 134 yards.

Wow, it's been a long time since my last post!!.. I don't have any excuse except that I've really been busy!

I'm still reading like a mad woman. I'm on the 2nd book by Jennifer Armintrout in the Blood Ties series. I'm really enjoying this series! I'm trying really hard to get through some of my series in my TBR bookcases!!

I've always wanted to learn how to crochet or knit. I bought lots of books on the subject and just never got the hang of the whole thing.

Then I discovered loom knitting!!

I just finished my first project last night at work!!..It's a stocking hat for a Christmas gift I made on the round green knifty knitter, but I think I goofed and made it too big..lol. I'll post some pictures below.I started on a tube scarf last night on the round blue knifty knitter loom. It's going to be so cute!

Loom knitting is so much fun! I bought the 4 piece knifty knitter round looms and the 5 piece long loom set by knifty knitter. I just ordered a wood dishcloth loom that should be here any time.

I've got a huge wish list of looms I want to get! I'd love to have an infinity loom to make afghans on. All the great wood looms are just too expensive for me right now. I've got all the books out on the subject so far and there are sooo many things I want to do!

I belong to several loom knitting groups on yahoo and love hearing about what everyone is making and learning something new every day! I'm hooked!!..lol

I work nights with the developmentally disabled and after I get my normal chores done and if nobody needs me, I read for awhile, then I knit, then I read..

Here are the pictures of my hat.

My Son's Wedding

These pictures were taken at my son's wedding on July 4th, 2003. That's me on the right. He and his wife Kerry live in Portland, Oregon. My dad had just passed away in March of that year so my mom and I flew out to Portland for the wedding. It was also my mom's and my first plane ride ever so it was doubly exciting!!
It was a beautiful day, they got married in this little place that had a small banquet room and a lovely back yard with lots of flowers. Just in back of where they got married was like a creek bed with lots of places to take walks etc. It was a wonderful day, Casey is my only child so Grandma and I were pretty emotional. He was very lucky to find Kerry, she is beautiful and smart and can put him in his place! He has since cut his hair, thank goodness!..I'm not against long hair at all, but he looks much better (in my opinion) with short hair. He told me he grew it for Kerry, because she liked it. That's all that counts.
They love Portland and wouldn't live anywhere else right now, unless it's Seattle, where they moved from. We didn't get to do any sightseeing, but I'm hoping to go there this summer and go to the ocean! They both love to cook, Kerry is a vegetarian and Casey used to be, he does eat meat once in awhile now. I don't know how Casey ever learned how to cook like he does, maybe out of necessity, because I don't cook very often!

The Chick and the Dead

The Chick and the Dead by Casey Daniels
This is the sequel to Don of the Dead
Pepper Martin Has a Gift –
And She’d Love to Give it Back!
Ever since Pepper hit her head on Gus Scarpetti’s mausoleum, she can see dead people. She hears them, too, and they won’t shut up!

The Scent of Shadows

The Scent Of Shadows - The First Sign of the Zodiac by Vicki Pettersson

Buried under the snow

I took this picture this morning. We got over a foot of snow yesterday and today. We are under a Blizzard Warning tonight because of the blowing snow and high winds. About 150 miles of Interstate 90 is closed and they are recommending absolutely no travel. All of the schools are closed.

I really hate this, I was going stir crazy so I paid my neighbor to dig me out and I went to Shopko and did a little retail therapy. lol...I was out of packing tape and had a bunch of books that I needed to mail out that I sold on eBay, so I did have a ligitimate reason..kinda!..Anyway, the main streets were ok, the side streets were bad so I guess I'm lucky to live where I do. I like right by our Middle School so they keep it pretty well clear. Our main street was crazy though, there is a hugh pile of snow all the way from one end to the other right down the middle of the street. The streets are pretty icy and there was only 2 lanes. It wasn't fun. So I went and did just a little shopping and went to McDonalds for take-out. They had closed any hour earlier!..So I went across the street to Burger King and got my food. I was happy to get home!!

I'm really happy that I have tonight off! I do work from Friday thru Sunday though, so I'm hoping the roads are a bit better by then. Or that the blizzard isn't too bad, my mom told me this morning that we could possibly get 6-8 more inches!! Oh well, my job will just have to come and get me. They are giving people rides just because they need people there so bad.

Hey, speaking of my retail therapy! I did get a new pair of very cool jeans on clearance!! They also had a really good sale on AAA and AA batteries. So I stocked up. I always need them for my camera and wireless keyboard and mouse.

Well, I guess I need to go do some laundry and get some cleaning done, then it's relaxation time with my book!

Cold and Snowy night

I'm sitting here on my couch watching the snow fall. It's been snowing all day and isn't supposed to stop until tomorrow evening. It's actually quite beautiful, big fat fluffy flakes covering the ground and the tree outside of my window. We are under a winter storm warning and this is supposed to turn into a blizzard tonight. By tomorrow night it's predicted that we'll have up to 8-12 inches.
This is my weekend off and I'm loving being in my nice warm apartment, not having to go anywhere, not having to brush the snow and ice off my car or having to drive in it. They are telling everyone to stay home tonight and they are talking about closing the Interstate. Thank god we are on the downside of Winter now!! You never know about South Dakota though, March and April can be our worst months for bad winter weather!!
I was intending on popping some popcorn, covering up with my warm snuggly throw and reading all day and I didn't even open my book. I started cleaning my apartment and saw that 2 of my all time favorite movies were on HBO so I watched them. Twister with Helen Hunt & Bill Paxton and Hope Floats with Sandra Bullock & Harry Connick Jr..(He is soooo yummy in those tight jeans!!)
Speaking of reading, I haven't had a good reading week at all, I've started 4 different books and just couldn't get into them, I'm sure they are good books but they just weren't what I wanted to read I guess. I did get several new books this week that I'm looking forward to. I found a bin of paperbacks at our Shopko department store, 2 for $5.98! They were pretty messed up from people going thru them, but I did find 2 that looked interesting. They are Aphrodite's Secret by Julie Kenner & Live Girls by Ray Garton. Then I got some books that I bought on eBay. They are Night Rising by Chris Marie Green,The Nymph King by Gena Showalter, Full Moon Rising by Keri Arthur, Don of the Dead by Casey Daniels.
I'm going to read Night Rising first, it looks really good, then I'll go with The Nymph King.
I'm really anxious to read Keri Arthur's Guardian Series, but I'll wait to have them all first. If I can wait that long anyway! I have Full Moon Rising and Kissing Sin and have already ordered Tempting Evil, then Dangerous Games comes out in April and #5 in the series is Embraced by Darkness coming out in July.
Well, that's it for tonight. I'm going to watch the snow for just a bit longer and then I'm going to go jump in my bed with my book!!
Bye for now!
Oh by the way, feel free to respond anytime, it's good to know someone is reading my ramblings!!

MaryJanice Davidson - Sleeping with the Fishes

Sleeping With the Fishes
Dr. Fredrika Bimm (aka Fred) has always known she was different, but being a mermaid doesn't mean she has to love the open ocean. When Fred wants to soak in salt water, she prefers the pool her mom had built.
Fred's job at the New England Aquarium allows her use her assets and communication skills with the fish. But her peaceful life is shattered when two handsome and determined men suddenly enter her life. The first is the new water fellow, Dr. Thomas Pearson, and the second is High Prince Artur of the Black Sea. Having never met another mer-person before, Fred is attracted to and annoyed by Artur. Both men have arrived because someone is deliberately polluting Boston Harbor, and they want Fred's help uncovering the culprit. It's a tough job working closely with two very sexy men, but someone has to do it!
My thoughts - I don't think it was her best writing, but if she writes more Fred books I know I'll keep buying them...I do think she should soften Fred up just a tiny bit, she is wayyy too harsh.
I finished this book on 2-19-07....I'd rate it a 3 out of 5

Check out my links!
